Dr. Sandra Hofmeister is an author, editor, lecturer, moderator, consultant, and keynote speaker specializing in architecture, design, and urban culture. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to communicating architecture and design to both professional and public audiences. She is the founder of castellobooks.com, an online platform for architecture and design books. After studying Architecture and Art History in Berlin and Munich, she received her PhD in Italian Philology from Ludwig Maximilian University Munich in 2006. She has authored and edited numerous books in both German and English on contemporary architecture, design, and urban culture. Her most recent publications include the fifth extended edition of Herzog & de Meuron: Architecture and Construction Details (Edition Detail, 2024; first published in 2006) and the interview volume Architecture and Climate Change (Edition Detail, 2024). Her writing has appeared in leading international and German-language publications, including the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the RIBA Journal, and numerous architecture and design magazines and online platforms. Sandra Hofmeister was the founding Editor-in-Chief of the German edition of Domus. From 2017 to 2025, she served as Editor-in-Chief of Detail, where she led the internationally renowned architecture magazine as well as its digital publishing platform and the book programme of Edition Detail. In addition to her editorial work, she advises architectural practices on publications and communication strategies, serves on international competition and award juries, and teaches at the University of Applied Arts Vienna as well as at various professional education institutions.
