Sandra Hofmeister is an architecture and art critic, moderator and editor. She studied architecture, art history and Romance studies at the Technical and Free University of Berlin and at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany. She completed her doctorate there in 2006 on the subject of ‘Fin de Siècle and Modernism’ (Meidenbauer-Verlag, Munich 2007). As an editor and author, she has published numerous books in German and English focussing on architecture and design. Her most recently published titles include ‘Architektur in Vorarlberg. Porträt einer regionalen Baukultur’ (edited by Verena Konrad and Sandra Hofmeister, Edition Detail 2024), “David Chipperfield Architects” (4th expanded edition, edited by Sandra Hofmeister, Edition Detail 2025) and “Architecture and Climate Change”, edited by Sandra Hofmeister, Edition Detail 2024). Her texts have appeared in German and English-language newspapers and magazines as well as on online platforms. Sandra Hofmeister accompanied the launch of the German Domus as editor-in-chief. From 2017 to 2025, as editor-in-chief of Detail, she was responsible for the international architecture magazine, the online programme and the book programme of Edition Detail. In 2025 she founded the book platform castello books. She works as a moderator and juror and also teaches, currently at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
